beyond-complianceAnnouncement – Call For Papers
AINDT’s twenty third National Conference; “NDT Beyond Compliance”, is scheduled for 17 to 19 October 2010 at the Sebel Albert Park, 65 Queens Road, Albert Park, in Melbourne’s Spring.
Unusually, but not uniquely, 12 months after our last annual conference on the Gold Coast this conference has been scheduled to raise the awareness of NDT and its benefits to a wide range of industrial organisations.
This two day conference will address the reduction in manufactured product compliance testing and the future of maintenance based NDT in a new decade.

Aim
The conference aims to look at the challenges for industry in applying NDT to risk based maintenance. It will provide an opportunity to expose the limitations of existing Standards, open up discussion on fitness for purpose based on historical data or fracture mechanics assessments.
It will provide an opportunity for industry to catch up with newer technologies so that they can improve the efficiency of their operations.
It will also provide an outlet for new research as well as provide practical workshops on selected technologies.

Background
With the decline in manufacturing in Australia NDT has moved from product compliance testing to asset integrity monitoring. Today NDT is applied to pressure vessels, pipelines, tanks, chemical reactors, bridges, power generators of all types, ships, planes, Defence materiel, buses, etc.
These are costly and complex pieces of infrastructure which need to be designed, built, operated, inspected, repaired and retested to the highest standards to ensure safe operation.
The demands on NDT and NDT technicians in this risk based maintenance environment are high.
In recent times failures and leaks of pressure equipment have proved to be significant safety and cost factors such that understanding the need for appropriate NDT surveillance is critical. In a country where much of infrastructure equipment is aging and plant life is pushed well beyond original design considerations the demands on NDT and NDT technicians are being pushed to the limits.
Can the information required for efficient maintenance be obtained with the high demand for production and plant availability leaving very limited time available for effective inspecti

Technical Focus
This Conference will focus on understanding the limitations of existing and emerging NDT techniques and the challenges they bring for Certification and Accreditation in the new decade of reduced compliance inspection.

  • New and emerging NDT techniques, applications and limitations
  • NDT in maintenance applications
  • NDT Standards in Australia
  • Defect detectability
  • Continuous monitoring and assessment.
  • Work shopping NDT equipment
  • Training, qualification and certification
  • Accreditation challenges
  • NDT in failure analysis
